Recent FORE Contributions

• The Professional Development Inventory is a self-assessment tool to help you identify progress in key knowledge areas and define a personalized plan for professional development.

• The FORE Library became part of the National Information Center for Health Services Administration, providing access to the most current and comprehensive library in the industry.

• Recognition of outstanding professional and volunteer leadership through the Triumph Awards encourages the best and the brightest in the field to assume important leadership positions while recognizing accomplished professionals and keeping the image of HIM vibrant and strong.

Resources & Tools You Can Use

Today's FORE projects and leadership will ensure that every HIM professional is prepared for tomorrow's challenges. For example:

• Innovative continuing education programs, such as the online coding assessment and training program, an Internet-based program which assesses individual coding skills and provides personalized training modules based on their results.

• Practical research, such as a special project documenting the common problems health information managers face in the conversion from paper to computer based records. Another project examines how technology policies in HIM environments affect reimbursement.

• The AHIMA Web site, which is filled with useful information for HIM professionals. You'll find professional development resources, career-building strategies, and updates on legislative initiatives that will shape our collective futures.

Created in 1962, The Foundation of Research and Education in Health Information Management (FORE) is a separately incorporated affiliate organization founded and managed by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). FORE provides an infrastructure of knowledge, research, and education in the field of health information management. Its role is to envision the future direction and needs of the field—and to respond with thinking, planning, and information that will keep health information management on the forefront.
